Illustration for Onuka Live with Naoni Orchestra
Illustration, 2016
In June 2016, I successfully defended my bachelor's project – an art book, "Ethnomusik. Reminiscences of Authentic Ukrainian Music in the Works of Modern musical bands". I created illustrations using images of traditional Ukrainian musical instruments. One illustration from it became a foundation for the image concept and style of the Onuka Live With Naoni Orchestra concert tour.
OVERVIEW
After Euromaidan in 2013, the rise of indie music started in Ukraine. In particular, folk motifs and traditional musical instruments in unusual arrangements and sounds became popular. Such an example was the music of the project Onuka. The ONUKA (granddaughter) project is a tribute to the outstanding Ukrainian master of musical instruments, Oleksandr Shlonchyk, grandfather of the ensemble soloist Natalia Zhyzhchenko. I was very impressed with her music, and I was thrilled to know that she liked my work, too.
My thesis project supervisor and I decided not to use many colors, and I created variations on the art book's spreads.
Example of these spreads.
I continued to create. It was a concept for vinyl covers.
My artwork was used in posters designs for the event and became a cover of the concert record Onuka Live With Naoni Orchestra.
Also this work was animated for the video on a song Time.
